The Garden Library is a community gathering space that contains both the functions of a library and a garden space. The space facilitates reading, studying, workshopping, and collaborating and it is aimed at a range of community members, from children, to working adults, to senior citizens.

Approaching from the sidewalk, the visitor encounters a park area covered by a tree. The stair system is calibrated here to create seating in the park area and to define a threshold. As you ascend the building, the space becomes less dynamic, quieter, and more isolated.
It is organized with the following three systems:
First, the Stair System: it is calibrated to create floors, seating, and a vertical passageway.
Second, the Trellis System: this system creates the building envelope and holds the archive.
Third, is the green columns. This system creates vertical green walls covering the elevator shaft, fills the courtyard, and exists as vertical planters in the greenhouse. The plantlife disrupts the orthogonal structure defined by the stair and trellis systems. This creates a polarity in the spatial experience. Depending on the light, and adjacency to plant life or to the tree, visitors can experience different levels of the natural environment and organicism.
